His family influence is simple. At the age of 21 years old his cousin Mark died in a fatal car accident. Dzan and his cousin were very close. His cousin told him he could be anything that he wanted to be. This was the point in which Dzan knew his voice needed to be heard. The pain he felt from his cousnins death was transmitted onto paper by writing poems and short stories. At the age of eight or nine he heard his first rap record "Slim Shady LP". He accredits his cousin Mark for who he is today. He wishes to tell stories and rap about the things he sees around him in the world. He wants people to understand where he had come from and learn from the mistakes he had fought through.
In Dzans own words he states:
I want people to hear me and say, "Damn, He knows what its like, his lyrics are poetry on a microphone... THAT'S REAL HIP HOP.."
Real hip hop is what I hope to bring..
"Its not all about the dollar signs and the fans that I get. I got love for rap and that, I'll never forget..."-DZAN
